OKC: Rich Man, Poor Woman, Initial Thoughts

5 Feb

Rich Man, Poor Woman OKC Cover

Another Operation: Kdrama Chat poll has ended, and we’ll be watching Rich Man, Poor Woman this time. I know, I know, you’re gonna say it’s a Jdrama, not a Kdrama, but, while we’ll mostly be watching Kdrama, we’re gonna throw some other stuff in every so often, just to mix it up. Feel free to read our discussions, or, better yet, come join us!

Rich Man, Poor WomanSo, on to Rich Man, Poor Woman. In the interest of full disclosure, I’ll say up front that I’ve already watched this one, and I loved it. I’m looking forward to discussing it with the group, and I’ll be watching it with a more critical eye this time, since I’ll be taking notes for discussion.

The basic rundown is that Sawaki Chihiro is a girl just finishing up her university degree, and she’s been looking for a job for a good long while, getting pretty discouraged in the process. Hyuga Toru is a genius programmer/entrepreneur at the head of a top software company. She’s sweet and earnest, he’s a brilliant jerk, together they fight— oh wait, I meant it’s an opposites-attract type show where she gets to teach him that everybody has something to offer, even if it’s not what he initially thinks is the most valuable, plus there’s a little romance along the way.

Synopsis

(Via DramaWiki)

Oguri Shun plays Hyuga Toru, an affluent man whose personality is on the contrary, speckled with flaws. A CEO of an IT firm who is published on Forbes as a billionaire, Toru attained his fortune through chance and pure luck. A woman who meets Toru and eventually becomes attracted to him is Sawaki Chihiro, played by Ishihara Satomi. Chihiro is a hardworking college student at Tokyo University who has prepared for her future as much as she possibly could through studies and obtaining licenses. Despite her efforts, she has yet to land a job. Upon meeting Toru, she begins to unravel a genuine pureness inside him and solitude resulting from such pureness, which eventually draws her closer to him. The two repeatedly conflict each other, but little by little learn about one another to grow and develop together.

Operation: Proposal [Review]

Operation Proposal

stars-2

So, this is the first show we discussed in our Facebook group — in fact it inspired the name, Operation: Kdrama Chat. It was a really frustrating show to watch, but that made for a great chat along the way as we shared opinions, commiserated, and sometimes disagreed.

Warning: This review may contain spoilers! Proceed at your own risk.

And it’s time for another Operation: Kdrama Chat update. We’re about a week away from finishing our discussion of Stars Falling From the Sky, and so far we’re enjoying this drama much better than the last. We’ve had another really good discussion, which only goes to prove that, good or bad, it’s awesome to hear others’ opinions and know you’re not alone in your drama-watching.

It’s also time for the poll to decide which drama we’re watching next. Please feel free to join us in our chats about our drama obsessions at our Facebook group. The choices this time are:

OKC: Stars Falling From the Sky

31 Dec

Well, we had some interesting results from our first Operation: Kdrama Chat. Pretty much all of us were disappointed with the drama, but we loved being able to discuss it afterward, so we’re gonna do another.

We put up a poll, and the victim winner was Stars Falling From the Sky. I’ve never seen it, but several others have and give it a good recommendation. We have some fun, snarky people in our group, so I think we’ll have an interesting discussion.

Everyone is welcome, so please feel free to join us on our Facebook group!

Thanks to Stephanie at Crazy for Kdrama and Laurie ADGirl for joining me in this adventure 🙂

Operation: Proposal Thoughts

Operation Proposal

Update: This is now finished and reviewed.

I’m trying something new! I’m watching Operation: Proposal with Stephanie from Crazy for Kdrama, our Facebook friend Laurie ADgirl, and several other ladies we know from Facebook and other web-type places, and we’re discussing it afterward in a Facebook group. It’ll be my first time discussing online with a group while watching a show, and I’m pretty excited about it.

The only thing I know about this show is what the synopsis below says, so I’m going in mostly blind. It doesn’t matter, though, because I’m sure we’re gonna have lots of fun talking about it no matter what the show is like.

We’re starting on Monday, December 17 and watching two episodes a day. If anyone would like to follow along, you can read our conversations in our Facebook group.
