Operation: Proposal [Review]

Operation Proposal

stars-2

So, this is the first show we discussed in our Facebook group — in fact it inspired the name, Operation: Kdrama Chat. It was a really frustrating show to watch, but that made for a great chat along the way as we shared opinions, commiserated, and sometimes disagreed.

Operation: Kdrama Chat, Number 3

28 Jan

And it’s time for another Operation: Kdrama Chat update. We’re about a week away from finishing our discussion of Stars Falling From the Sky, and so far we’re enjoying this drama much better than the last. We’ve had another really good discussion, which only goes to prove that, good or bad, it’s awesome to hear others’ opinions and know you’re not alone in your drama-watching.

It’s also time for the poll to decide which drama we’re watching next. Please feel free to join us in our chats about our drama obsessions at our Facebook group. The choices this time are:

Flower Boy Next Door, Initial Thoughts

25 Jan

Flower Boy Next Door

What can I say? I’d been looking forward to this show, not knowing what to expect, just that it was from the same people that made “Flower Boy Ramyun Shop” and “Shut Up Flower Boy Band”, which I loved. Then came the casting news — Park Shin Hye, Yoon Si Yoon, Kim Ji Hoon — and I was even more excited to see what they’d do with such a good cast. At Christmas, they gave us teaser video after teaser video, and I began to worry that there was gonna be a letdown after all this buildup.

I’m here to say, six episodes in, that it’s good — really, really good. I won’t make a final judgement until I’ve seen the last episode, but so far I’m not disappointed in the least. It’s a slower story, made up of small moments — some laugh out loud, some poignant — that come together into a whole that’s like hanging out with a group of good friends for an hour and a half every week.

I’m at Crazy for Kdrama!

Stephanie at Crazy for Kdrama asked me to do a guest post talking about my best and worst kdrama for 2012. Check it out!

OKC: Stars Falling From the Sky

31 Dec

Well, we had some interesting results from our first Operation: Kdrama Chat. Pretty much all of us were disappointed with the drama, but we loved being able to discuss it afterward, so we’re gonna do another.

We put up a poll, and the victim winner was Stars Falling From the Sky. I’ve never seen it, but several others have and give it a good recommendation. We have some fun, snarky people in our group, so I think we’ll have an interesting discussion.

Everyone is welcome, so please feel free to join us on our Facebook group!

Thanks to Stephanie at Crazy for Kdrama and Laurie ADGirl for joining me in this adventure 🙂

Full House Take 2, Initial Thoughts

24 Dec

Full House Take 2

This is the most recent drama I’m watching with my niece. We started it because it looked light and fluffy, and the actors’ hair was so atrocious, we thought there’d be plenty to make fun of. All of that is true, but we found that it has a charm to it that’s made us come back and watch it to see how everything works out.

A note about the hair, the picture at the top of the post does not do justice to how bad the hair is, so I went on a search to illustrate it and posted the results below. There’s a reason we refer to this show as Bad Hair rather than its name.

Tae Ik and Man Ok 2

Even when they redid their hair about halfway through, it wasn’t much better. Although I will admit hers is more of an improvement than his.

Operation: Proposal Thoughts

16 Dec

Operation Proposal

Update: This is now finished and reviewed.

I’m trying something new! I’m watching Operation: Proposal with Stephanie from Crazy for Kdrama, our Facebook friend Laurie ADgirl, and several other ladies we know from Facebook and other web-type places, and we’re discussing it afterward in a Facebook group. It’ll be my first time discussing online with a group while watching a show, and I’m pretty excited about it.

The only thing I know about this show is what the synopsis below says, so I’m going in mostly blind. It doesn’t matter, though, because I’m sure we’re gonna have lots of fun talking about it no matter what the show is like.

We’re starting on Monday, December 17 and watching two episodes a day. If anyone would like to follow along, you can read our conversations in our Facebook group.
